After a full restoration lasting more than three years, this Porsche 912 Targa once again shines in its original factory specifications. It was repainted in Ossiblau, just as it was when it left the factory in April 1969. The original dealer was Porsche Car Pacific Inc. The car was last registered in Montana before making its way to Germany, where a Porsche enthusiast undertook the restoration. The restoration is extensively documented with photographs. The effort involved—both in terms of time and money—was enormous and exceeds the current selling price.

The Porsche 912 was an entry-level model produced from 1965 to 1969 that combined the 911’s body with the more robust, fuel-efficient four-cylinder boxer engine
of its predecessor, the Porsche 356. In 1976, a new version was introduced as the 912 E, exclusively for the U.S. market. The 912 was introduced as a more affordable alternative to the pricier six-cylinder Porsche 911 to retain customers for the brand following the discontinuation of the Porsche 356. Externally, it was nearly identical to the 911, but differed mainly in its engine and, initially, a simpler interior. The 912 used an air-cooled 1.6-liter four-cylinder boxer engine (Type 616/36) from the 356 SC, which produced 90 PS (66 kW). The 912 E (1976) was equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder VW engine (Type 4) with fuel injection, also producing 90 PS. Due to the lighter engine, the 912 was less rear-heavy than the early 911, resulting in more docile and agile handling, particularly in corners. Initially, the 912 had only three round gauges instead of the five standard in the 911; however, this was expanded to five gauges starting with the 1967 model year. The model was available as a coupe and, starting in 1967, also as a Targa with a folding rear window.

Production figures: Over 30,000 units were produced from 1965 to 1969, while the 912 E (1976 only) was released in a limited run of 2,099 units for the U.S. market.
