Here we offer a very nice and also rare Porsche 356 Convertible D, built in 1959. A roadster produced in small series in an edition of just 1330 units, produced as a direct successor to the legendary Porsche 356 Speedster by the coachbuilder Drauz in Heilbronn. The car has been in the last possession for 30 years and was imported to Germany from the USA Oregon in 1992. Here, both on the body side and technically, an extensive restoration of the vehicle was carried out. In 2001, the Porsche received a performance-enhanced engine on a 356 C basis, for just under 25,000 DM. The original engine is also available and can be purchased separately. Over the years, of course, investments have been made in the car again and again, and we have corresponding service certificates.

The Evolution: Speedster vs. Convertible D

The original Speedster was built for sunny California – without real weather protection and extremely spartan. The Convertible D made the open-top sports car suitable for everyday use:Real crank windows: Instead of the impractical plug-in windows of the Speedster, the Convertible D offered crankable glass side windows.Higher windscreen: A higher, chrome-plated window frame improved the wind protection and offered a better view upwards. More comfort: The interior received thicker upholstered, much more comfortable seats instead of the hard bucket seats.Soft top: The fabric soft top remained light and unlined, but was much tighter thanks to the new frame. Rarity and collector's valueSince the model was only built for a single year before it was replaced by the visually modified 356 B Roadster for the 1960 model year, the Convertible D is considered an absolute rarity today. A large part of the production was exported to the USA at that time.
